Every November road safety charity Brake hold a national campaign called Road Safety Week, to raise awareness of how to avoid unnecessary accidents and deaths on the roads each year. The theme for 2020 is No Need to Speed, looking at how reducing your speed and sticking to speed limits can have a massive impact on the number of accidents on the roads.
Did you know that someone is injured on a UK road every 4 minutes? 1.3 million people die on roads every year and many road deaths involve a vehicle being driven for work. Just 1mph can mean the difference between life and death on the roads as the higher the speed, the longer the stopping distance, the harder the crash and the greater the risk of death and injury.
This video uses the science of speed and the physics of road crashes to explain why it’s important for drivers to keep within speed limits.
Businesses, schools and organisations are encouraged to sign up for free to support the campaign, with free resources available too at roadsafetyweek.org.uk.
